To cover the floor of your office or home, you choose a carpet or rug based on different characteristics. Whether it is for its color or to reduce the noise of your environment, the rug is very popular. Unfortunately, just like any other floor, carpeting and rugs also need regular cleaning. Here are different ways to clean them.

Preparing for cleaning

First of all, it is essential to take a few steps before cleaning your rug. The first step is to vacuum your rug or carpet. This first step will remove most of the dust and dirt embedded in your rug. Next, you will need to test your cleaning product on the corner of your rug or carpet. This will ensure that the product you choose will not damage your rug or carpet.

Cleaning with potato

Surprisingly, the starch in potatoes is a very effective cleaning agent. So, just take some potato peels and let them infuse in water. Then soak a sponge with the mixture and proceed to clean your rug or carpet. Let the mixture work for a few hours and rinse with clean water. All that’s left to do is let your rug dry.

Cleaning with soda water and bicarbonate

For this type of cleaning, simply dip a sponge in carbonated water and brush your rug with the sponge. Afterwards, leave it for 30 minutes and sprinkle the baking soda on the carpet or rug. Then, when the baking soda has dried, vacuum the carpet and you’re done!

Dry Cleaning

Dry cleaning is the reference method for cleaning the different textiles found in your carpets and rugs (wool, silk, cotton, synthetic fibers, etc.). It is characterized by the combined use of a low level of humidity and a cleaning product. The term “dry” is explained by the fact that the cleaning process involves a low level of humidity and a higher evaporation rate. This also implies a significant reduction in drying time.
